As we pondered names for our first child, we knew that God wanted us to name him or her with significant meaning. Furthermore, the Lord told us to name them prophetically, as people in the Bible were typically named. Before we knew we’d get stuck on a weapon theme, we knew that our children were to be weapons in the Hand of God. The Bible says,
Psalm 127:4 through Psalm 127:5 (NKJV)
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
So that is the basis of the unusual names of our children. We didn’t start out wanting to name them after guns, but after the first two were named, the grandparents started referring to them as “the artillery boys” and, thus far, all of our boys’ names do have some kind of weapon in their name.
