Whereas Kanon was formerly known as the Texas Tornado, Gunnar was the gentle breeze. In recent years he’s become pretty rowdy. Gunnar was born in our living room while we lived in Beaumont, TX. He was a large baby (9 pounds and 23 inches long), but is not so big now, beginning the Salyer family tradition of birthing big babies who grow to be midgets! His most evident character trait is that he talks constantly (just like Mommy!) Gunnar likes to be outside, especially if Daddy is working outside. Gunnar is his sidekick. Gunnar is a Norwegian name that means “battle warrior” or “warrior king” (a word of caution: DON’T name a child “battle warrior” because he’ll live up to it!!!!) He has 2 middle names. The first, Nathanael, means “gift of God” and is the man in the New Testament that was described by Jesus as a Hebrew without guile. His second middle name is Dragonslayer, which means exactly what it sounds like. That name came from a song by Michael Card which refers to Jesus as the Dragonslayer. In the Bible, Satan or the Devil is also referred to as a dragon and it is written that Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil. Gunnar’s favorite book of the Bible is Proverbs.
